Workforce Foresighting Hub Case Study: ORE Catapult – Skills for Floating Offshore Wind

ORE Catapult are looking for participants (technologists, and employers) in two forthcoming Workforce Foresighting studies.

Workforce Foresighting aims to identify future skills needs (and gaps) for emerging technologies, in key UK industry areas.  The findings from the study are combined with forecasting, when ORE Catapult will work with educators and training organisations to influence skills development for the sector.

Sponsored by Renewable UK, ORE Catapult have now completed five workforce foresighting studies, and these have been recognised by InnovateUK as the exemplars for Workforce Foresighting.

The two cycles will look at:

1. Accelerating subsea survey for offshore wind, using autonomous systems (USV / AUV) and AI data processing.

• Technologist workshops, 3 x during December 2025

• Employer workshops, 2 x during January 2026

2.Smoothing the delivery of power to grid from offshore wind (e.g., battery storage, electrolysis / green hydrogen).

• Technologist workshops, 3 x during late Jan / Feb 2026

•  Employer workshops, 2 x during Feb 2026.

The workshops are all online (Teams, Miro) and last around 2.5 hrs. The ‘technologist’ workshops suit technical specialists and engineers. The ‘employer’ workshops benefit from participants with a broad industry / skills & resourcing outlook.  Participants just need to bring their knowledge and insight to the table, and a Workforce Hub coach supported by the Catapult, will guide participants through the process.  From experience we find that 2-3 participants from an organisation works well to provide continuity in case of diary clashes.
