UK Wind Delegation to India

Posted on 17 August 2023

We are delighted to inform you that the UK’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT), in partnership with Scottish Development International (SDI) and the Midlands Region, is organising a UK Wind delegation to India from the 03rd to 06th of October 2023. The delegation visit is aligned with ‘Windergy India 2023’, one of the largest ‘Wind’ focussed events in the country, hosted by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, in partnership with the Indian Wind Power Association and PDA Ventures. India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will be supporting the event along with the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Growing wind power generation in India is crucial to decarbonise the energy system and support international efforts to keep global warming within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. India is the world’s fourth-largest Wind power capacity globally with an installed capacity of 42.6 GW. Government of India has set an ambitious target of having 500GW of Renewable Energy by 2030, which includes 140GW of wind power. India’s Wind Energy has an offshore target of 30GW by 2030, with the states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu identified as potential sites.

The delegation visit will be covering the cities of New Delhi (in Northern India) and Chennai (in Southern India), which will be a combination of stakeholder meetings / engagements, networking receptions and participating in Windergy India 2023. To support and promote UK companies, such as yours, we at DBT have taken space at Windergy India 2023 for an impressive UK country pavilion which will be managed by colleagues from DBT Energy, SDI and Midlands Region team in India. Participating in the delegation will help secure a delegate pass and space at the UK pavilion to display small gadgets / instruments / literature and a common meeting place at Windergy India 2023.
