Formed as a new company within the Steel River Consultants group, SRC: LCS will provide cost-effective access to independent and impartial lifting operations assurance services globally across the renewable sector.
Lifting operations are widely regarded as one of the highest risk activities undertaken in the renewable sector. They are a critical and unavoidable aspect of the entire wind energy value chain, including the manufacturing, transportation, pre-assembly, installation, commissioning, operation & maintenance, component exchanges and decommissioning activities.
SRC: LCS Director, Danny Travis, has over 20 years of experience in the lifting sector, half of which has been spent in the wind industry planning and taking responsibility for the safe execution of lifting operations.
He believes most of the lifting operations incidents which have occurred in this sector over the years are entirely preventable, saying “having collaborated with many organizations across the renewable industry throughout the last decade, I have witnessed first-hand many firms struggling to tackle common issues.”
“Industry incident data routinely places lifting operations in the top 3 hazardous work activities and in the offshore market, and it has been the work activity with the highest number of high potential incidents for the last 3 consecutive years. In many instances turbine manufacturers and owner/operators do not have dedicated lifting specialist expertise and as the industry ramps up exponentially to meet global emissions targets and domestic energy security policies, so too will the number of lifting operations that require executing safely.”
