New Year signals board changes at Port of Blyth

Blyth Harbour Commission, the statutory trust that operates the Port of Blyth, has appointed a new Chair for its Board of Commissioners.

Catherine Young, formerly Deputy Chair, takes up the role as Chair, replacing Geoff Hodgson OBE DL following the completion of his term after many years of dedicated service.

Having worked as Deputy Chair since January 2022, and as a commissioner for seven years prior to that, Catherine is well equipped with the expertise and experience to oversee the ongoing success of the Port and its subsidiaries.

Catherine commented: "Firstly, I would like to extend my gratitude to Geoff Hodgson, who is stepping down after a highly successful term on the Board which has coincided with record-breaking financial performance and several significant developments. I am also delighted to be continuing my service for Blyth Harbour Commission as Chair and I am looking forward to working closely with Board members and senior management to deliver further growth and prosperity for the benefit of our stakeholders and the wider regional economy.”

Current Commissioner, Paul Hardisty, has stepped up to become Deputy Chair and will continue to offer the benefit of his significant experience as a senior executive within the offshore energy industry.

A new non-executive Commissioner, Andrew Mills, has also been appointed, bringing with him a wealth of technology and industrial experience which will no doubt add strength to the Blyth Harbour Commission Board.

Port of Blyth is the port operating division of Blyth Harbour Commission, an independent statutory trust established in 1882. It is one of the largest Trust Port’s in the UK handling cargo across four terminals based around the River Blyth.

Together with major logistics and training divisions, the Port group has a growing turnover exceeding £30 million, driven by growth across a variety of sectors but particularly offshore energy, with the Port is now recognised as a major strategic east coast base supporting the sector. Other trade handled includes containers, dry bulks (coal, aggregates, cement etc.) and marine fuels.

As a Trust Port, all profits are re-invested back into the Port to improve facilities and to provide benefits for its wider stakeholders.
