MJR Power and Automation Successfully Delivers Power Van Project to Osbit

One of the UK’s leading marine power and electrical engineering specialists has successfully supported a major offshore equipment supplier with the delivery of a power van for a state-of-the-art subsea trenching vehicle.

MJR Power and Automation has designed and constructed the 1200kW offshore power van for an innovative subsea trencher developed by offshore equipment supplier Osbit.

The vehicle, named Swordfish, is a new addition to vessel operator Jan De Nul Group’s existing fleet of trenching vehicles.

Tailored to the operator’s specifications and powered by two 300kW hydraulic power units and two 300kW electric HP jet pumps, Swordfish has been designed to enable cables to be buried up to 3 metres deep - and tackle even the most challenging of soil conditions.

Speaking about the successful contract delivery, Paul Cairns, Managing Director at MJR Power and Automation said: “It has been great to support Osbit – who are recognised across the globe for their cutting-edge engineering systems, in the successful delivery of this subsea trencher.

“Well done to all teams involved who demonstrated exceptional engineering expertise to deliver this state-of-the-art vehicle. This is another project to add to our portfolio of successfully delivered power vans for trenchers, ploughs and ROV’s which offer superior operations as a result of our collaborative engineering excellence.”

MJR Power and Automation has been integral to the production of the vehicle’s power cabin, which is central to the distribution of power for the trencher equipment spread. It boasts a suite of low harmonic variable speed drives and houses a fully integrated control system.

Abbas Latif, Project Owner at Osbit, said: “We’re really pleased with the quality of the equipment supplied by MJR Power and Automation on this project. The power cabin has been delivered to meet Osbit’s specification and we’d like to thank MJR for the excellent level of support provided throughout this project’s duration.

We’re delighted to have been able to utilise the skills of a fellow North East England-based company to help deliver this project, and the completed system will now go on to make a real impact in the global offshore wind industry’s development.”

With over 25 years’ experience delivering marine electrical power and automation projects from new build, retrofit and upgrade, MJR Power & Automation is at the very forefront of providing innovative solutions – both at port and offshore - to support the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.  The company provides a complete turnkey offering of both products and solutions from power and propulsion, automation and energy storage to equipment, remote monitoring and shore power supplies.
