KPMG- Department for Work and Pensions: Kickstart Job Placements

The Government’s announced in the autumn the Kickstart scheme which is now available to businesses throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The £2 billion scheme funds employers to create subsidised job placements for 16 to 24 year olds. It aims to create six month work placements for young people who are on Universal Credit and deemed to be at risk of long term unemployment.

Employers will received funding to support young people to build their experience and help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart funded job. The funding for each job will cover 100% of the relevant national minimum wage for 25 hours a week, plus the associated employer national insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.

A Kickstart Scheme application must be for a minimum of 30 job placements. If a single employer cannot provide this many job placements, they can find a Kickstart gateway, such as a local authority, charity or trade body for help applying.
