Fully funded, fabrication and welding support for Tees Valley engineering businesses

Small and medium sized businesses in the Tees Valley Region are invited to take advantage of fully funded, free assistance – from engineering based, research and technology organisation TWI Ltd – through its business support programme: Materials Integrity Technology Transfer (MITT). The initiative is geared at helping firms achieve sustainable growth by increasing profitability and competitiveness.
Through the scheme, individual companies receive tailored, practical advice on best practices in tackling their fabrication and welding issues from TWI’s welding engineers and other technology experts. This support utilises TWI’s vast range of disciplines covering welding, joining, surface engineering, additive manufacture (AM), inspection and numerical modelling, and covers all engineering materials such as metals, composites, plastics and so on.
Some of the ways in which MITT has helped companies to date include:
- Troubleshooting production problems and failure investigations
- Achieving compliance with health and safety requirements, for instance welding fume control
- Supporting progress with quality and certification, such as ISO 3834, BS EN 1090 (CE Marking)
- Creating welding procedures, qualifications, and welding documentation control
- Exploring more effective technologies and processes, new materials and improved designs
- Accelerating innovation to develop a new product or service to market
Project Manager, Sarah McCarthy, said “The MITT project is making an important contribution to companies in the Tees Valley by helping, and working with, them to strengthen their businesses and, consequently, their market position. This enables them to take full advantage of the opportunities ahead as a result of the announced investment and expansion plans for the region.” Going on to say “We are delighted to see that companies supported by the scheme are already benefiting from increased efficiencies, lower costs and improved competitive advantage.”
