Find out more about the event below

1. Introduction to JDR

JDR Cable Systems, part of the TFKable Group, is a global leader in power and control solutions for the offshore energy sector. With over 30 years of expertise, JDR specialises in the design, manufacture, installation, and support of subsea power cables and umbilical systems worldwide.

A pioneer in inter-array cable supply for offshore wind, wave, and tidal energy, JDR is recognised for its innovation and client-focused approach. With manufacturing facilities in Hartlepool (UK), Littleport (UK), and TKable in Bydgoszcz (PL), the group delivers high-performance solutions for complex offshore energy challenges.

2. JDR’s Role in Offshore Wind and Future Offshore Energy Projects

JDR and TFKable play a key role in the global energy transition, supplying subsea cables for major offshore wind projects. Starting with the Beatrice Demonstrator Project, JDR delivered 3.5 km of cable, followed by 33kV inter-array cables for Greater Gabbard and London Array—two of the UK’s most significant wind farms.

Over the past 15 years, JDR has delivered 4,000 km of subsea cables, enabling offshore wind power transmission worldwide. As an early innovator in 66kV inter-array cables, JDR has supported the integration of larger turbines improving efficiency and reducing costs. The company has also advanced dynamic power cables for floating offshore wind farms, reinforcing its position in next-generation offshore energy.

In 2024, JDR completed the type test qualification for its new 132kV static array cable, designed for next-generation offshore wind turbines. Supported by a Development Grant from the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, the cable was developed with a leading materials supplier and tested at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. It will be produced at JDR’s upgraded Hartlepool facility and the new high-voltage manufacturing plant in Cambois, Northumberland.

With the increasing size of offshore wind turbines, greater transmission capacity is essential. JDR’s 132kV technology doubles the voltage of the 66kV industry standard, enhancing energy transmission, reducing costs, and ultimately lowering clean energy prices for consumers.

JDR’s investment in the Cambois, near Blyth subsea cable facility, announced in 2021, will expand its high-voltage and extended-length land and inter-array cable production. Once operational in 2025, the facility will create 171 jobs, safeguard 270 positions, and strengthen the UK’s offshore wind supply chain. Supported by a UK Government grant, it will feature a Catenary Continuous Vulcanizing (CCV) line, making it one of the UK’s only start-to-finish high-voltage subsea cable manufacturing plants.

JDR remains committed to innovation, capacity expansion, and supporting the global energy transition through advanced cable technology and strategic industry partnerships.

3. JDR Projects and Supply Chain Opportunities

JDR has recently secured a number of significant awards across the energy sector. As the industry continues to evolve, and with the completion of our expansion projects in Hartlepool and Blyth, we are actively seeking supply chain support across our full range of products and services.

There are opportunities for supply chain partners to collaborate with us in areas such as services and logistics, particularly in support of upcoming major offshore developments. We are also investing in new product development, testing, and qualification activities, alongside ongoing operational and maintenance needs across our facilities in the North East of England.

Additionally, we are looking to engage with key suppliers for several offshore energy and net-zero infrastructure projects currently in our pipeline. Further details on the full scope of projects and supply chain opportunities will be shared at the event.
