Safinah helped Global Tanker Operator unlock fuel efficiency and minimise off hire cost
Following a scheduled drydock in 2021, a chemical/oil tanker operated by a global tanker owner experienced rapid hull performance deterioration, with underwater inspections revealing extensive slime and weed fouling across approximately 60% of the vessel’s vertical sides.
The vessel subsequently required two underwater cleaning events within a single drydock cycle, highlighting significant antifouling performance and operational efficiency concerns. Operating in high fouling-risk environments at average speeds of 13–14 knots and sea temperatures around 30°C, the vessel faced increasing fuel consumption and resistance challenges.
Safinah was engaged to reassess and redefine the vessel’s antifouling strategy ahead of its next scheduled drydock in China.
