Last wind turbine installed at Danish renewables giant Orsted’s Revolution Wind project off New England

A major US offshore wind project that was twice targeted with stop work orders by the Trump administration has installed its final turbine.
“Commissioning activities continue across the project, with safety as the top priority. Revolution Wind continues to progress toward an anticipated commercial operation date later this year.”
The 704MW project is powered by 65 Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbines. Offtake is split between Rhode Island (400MW) and Connecticut (304MW).
Orsted owns the project in a 50-50 joint venture with Global Infrastructure Partners’ Skyborn Renewables, which acquired utility Eversource’s portion of the project in 2024.
Revolution sent its first power to the New England grid back in March and Orsted said it "continues to scale up generation.”
“Once fully operational, Revolution Wind is expected to produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 350,000 New England homes, strengthening the region’s supply of affordable, reliable energy.”
To say Revolution has endured a rocky road to get to its final turbine installation would be an understatement.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has launched an all-out war against offshore wind since he returned to office in January last year.
That has included a number of attacks on the sector as a whole as well as attacks on projects, and Revolution has found itself twice in the firing line.
In August last year, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued a stop work order against Revolution, which was by that stage 80% complete, on the basis of supposed national security concerns. Orsted succeeded in winning an injunction lifting that order a month later.
BOEM issued another order last December stopping work on not just Revolution but all five offshore wind projects under construction in the US at that time. The second order likewise raised national security concerns and was once again lifted a month later.
