It’s been six months since NRL opened their new Teesside branch in the Wilton Centre, their second North East recruitment base.
They’ve discovered a lot about Teesside during this time, and have shared their top six discoveries.
It’s something Allan Stevenson, their Teesside Divisional Manager, told NRL in his initial meeting before joining the team this year. There are so many opportunities to make connections within the region – with candidates, businesses and people working on regional initiatives.
Everyone is keen to support each other and work together to drive improvement. Making it an absolute pleasure to support local businesses and residents.
NRL knew straight away that they wanted their Teesside branch to be based in the Wilton Centre. Branch Manager Emma Lowden noted that from the moment you arrive you instantly feel a buzz around the place – making it a great location to work with so many opportunities to meet like-minded businesses.
A short trip to the cafeteria to grab a coffee, often turns into a lengthy chat with someone new. From offices to laboratories, it’s fantastic to see innovation and best practice happening.
The engineering and technical recruiter had already supported the region’s ambitious plans for several years before moving into the Wilton Centre, including supporting the construction of the TeesREP biomass-powered plant – so were extremely familiar with the regeneration plans.
Now working in the heart of it though and supporting more and more projects as they begin to take shape, they find it rewarding to see how the improvement initiatives and new industry is inspiring change at all levels across the region. As well as the future opportunities it provides school leavers thinking about the career they could carve out for themselves whilst staying close to home.
It’s been great to be able to get back to meeting in person, and this year Allan and the NRL team have attended a number of regional events including several hosted by NEPIC and NOF.
NRL are delighted to be members of the North East Of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) and the energy supply chain sector not-for-profit organisation NOF. They both provide a great opportunity to hear about the latest regional developments and meet the people who are just as keen to see these projects come to life as NRL are. Face-to-face events are a fantastic way to make new connections and network with other regional businesses actively working in Teesside.
Whether NRL are recruiting for engineering vacancies in Middlesbrough, Redcar, Hartlepool or Stockton-on-Tees – the team are always excited to chat with local candidates who have decades of experience.
Across Teesside and the Tees Valley, there are so many people who have direct or transferrable skills to help develop the major infrastructure, energy and construction projects needed to bring the region’s regeneration plans to life. For the NRL team, it’s exciting to be able to work with these talented people to help them secure their next career move. Whether that’s taking on a temporary assignment to support production peaks, or a new permanent role to help then progress.
Working with local organisations who they’ve supported for several years, as well as talking to new organisations that they have recently connected with, NRL are encouraged to see that each of them have their own aspirations to leave a lasting legacy across Teesside.
With so many impressive plans across the region including Net Zero Teesside, the appetite to go green is being extended across local businesses. At NRL this enthusiasm is matched, having achieved the Carbon Neutral International Standard across their operations last year, in addition to supporting their clients to help secure the talent and expertise needed to bring their renewable energy and low carbon projects to life. It’s great to see that this ambition is shared across other Teesside businesses as the region leads the way to a greener future.
Whether you’re looking for your next career move, or you’re a local organisation looking to talk about your latest recruitment opportunities, Allan and the NRL team would love to hear from you.
