MTE’s New Quayside Facility Officially Opened by Mayor, Ben Houchen

MTE’s new quayside facility, based at Haverton Hill Teesside has officially been opened by the Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen.

On Friday (April 8th), MTE welcomed key clients and partners to the facility to help celebrate the official open event and showcase MTE’s expanded capabilities and increased facility capacity.

The new 8-acre office and fabrication facility supports MTE’s ambitious growth plans, providing capacity to deliver large complex modules and fabrications to the growing offshore wind and other green energy industries.

Since 1969, MTE has built a proud reputation for being the leading global supplier of solutions protecting people and equipment from fire, blast and radiant heat hazards. The company delivers Modular Buildings, Fire and Blast rated structures, General Fabrications and Thermal Defence products.

The new facility is a substantial expansion to their existing facilities in Darlington, UK and Busan, South Korea.

Located adjacent to the River Tees, the site allows direct access to worldwide offshore projects and consists of 4500m2 of indoor fabrication space, and 7 acres of external assembly, laydown and riverside frontage.

MTE’s on-site modern office space accommodates their delivery teams, allowing the company to successfully deliver projects within a single site, improving project controls, cost and schedule certainty. Boosting their capabilities further, the facility has access to both a deep water load out quay, and internal site access to supporting supply chain partners.

This exciting acquisition will create over 60 jobs for the Teesside area and contribute to the growing demand of renewable energy projects.

Matt Camp, Joint Managing Director said: “The strategic decision to purchase this great riverside facility, MTE Tees Supply Base highlights MTE’s ambitious growth plans, and the resolve of our team to create a successful future.

It is very encouraging that so many of our key clients and partners came alongside MTE to celebrate this special occasion, and we look forward to working together in the near future."

Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen said: “MTE is a long-standing and successful business that has made a global name for itself and never slowed down in its ambitions to grow. This new facility has shown the hard work, expertise and determination of everyone working there has paid off in spades, allowing it to further invest in the region it calls home.

“The site is already paying off, with fabrication currently under way on a major offshore project there, and it will help MTE secure even more important deals in the future. I’ve no doubt that the 60 good-quality, well-paid jobs for local people that its new facility is creating will only be the tip of the iceberg, as it continues to go on to bigger and better things.”
