We have recently completed our latest bridge project fabricating and installing the station access bridge for the new station development at Horden County Durham. The scope of work included a 14m main span, 200m of access ramp and landing sections, two staircases and supporting trestles. The total weight of this structure was 170te formed mainly from plate and hot rolled hollow section, S355 J2+N and S355 J2H. Fabrication standard of BS EN 1090-2 Execution Class 3. Protective treatment was the Network Rail N1 Metal Spray system. Anti-slip surfacing was applied to all walking surfaces on the main span, ramps, landings and stairs. The installation was completed at the height of the recent "lockdown" restrictions over 21 consecutive RoR night time possessions, using two mobile cranes the largest being a 500te crane with a Luffing Jib. While the size of the transported assemblies were well within our usual experience it was the sequencing and logistics of the loads to ensure a smooth installation that provided the challenge. The scheme was delivered on time and to plan.
