About this Event

The UNclear NUclear Future - Brian Matthews

With recent interest in all things energy, nuclear power has been in the headlines with the promise of a resurgence in the UK and across the world. There is no other form of energy that generates such conflicting views; waste, cost, time to build, complexity, safety margin, size, the need, public perception and support (and in some cases still fear)… This talk will review the recent progress, plans, R&D, investment, public opinion and political support, hopefully answering a few of the questions as to why there is a nuclear future and what that means for the UK and beyond.

Brian has worked in the energy sector since 1997 and specialises in nuclear power, operational leadership, energy policy and strategy, and supports STEM in education at all levels. He has worked internationally with the world association of nuclear operators (WANO) and worked with Durham University since 2017.
