Is a 30 year career in the Energy industry still relevant for the next 30?

Six years ago Ian Marchant came to share his thoughts and reflections as to the future energy mix of UK Energy.

This November we are delighted to see him return, asking the question, is a 30 year career in the Energy industry still relevant for the next 30? He will talk about his experience in SSE and other companies and reflect on what the drive to nett zero carbon and new technologies might mean for the next 30 years.

Ian Marchant was Chief Executive of SSE plc, a leading UK energy utility company, for over 10 years until stepping down in the summer of 2013. Ian is also a former Chairman of Scotland's 2020 Climate Delivery Group, the immediate past President of Energy Institute, former NED of Cyberhawk. Ian is former Chairman of the renewable energy firm, Infinis, Chairman of Maggies Cancer Centres and most recent former Chairman of the Aberdeen based quoted energy services firm, Wood plc.

Ian returned in September 2020 to Chairman of Thames Water Utilities Limited, having carried the dual responsibility as Interim Executive Chairman for 16months.

Ian is the non-executive Chairman of the Edinburgh based tidal energy company, Nova Innovation Ltd. He is also a Non-executive director of Aggreko Plc, and his is an advisor to Scottish Equity Partners and a number of energy related companies such as Beyond Green.

He is former Chair of the Advisory Board for the Centre of Energy Policy at Strathclyde University, a visiting Professor with the business schools at Edinburgh and Durham universities, Associate Fellow of Durham Energy Institute as well as being a member of the Prince’s Council of the Duchy of Cornwall and the President of the RZSS. Ian has his own consultancy firm – Dunelm Energy – offering advice, investment and connections in the energy industry and beyond.
