NRL Limited’s Sunderland team are celebrating a significant milestone for Branch Manager Emma Lowden as she marks 20 years’ service.
Joining the team in 1999, Emma originally called into the North East based recruitment office looking to secure temporary work with one of NRL’s clients whilst home from university. She left with a 3-week assignment covering the branch’s reception – answering and fielding calls for the technical recruitment branch.
Although this provided only a short insight into the world of recruitment Emma was hooked and contacted Branch Director Gillian Gomersall after finishing university to see if there were any permanent roles to join the team. Following a successful interview Emma was hired as a recruitment clerk – booking and filling vacancies with suitable candidates.
Reflecting over the years, Branch Director Gillian Gomersall comments, “Our North East branch has always had a special culture, and Emma has played a huge part in continuously improving this.

For over two decades Emma has continued to develop her recruitment and managerial skills, raising to Branch Manager in 2006, and advancing her drive to learn by embarking on a Strategic Leadership MBA at the University of Sunderland with NRL’s support.
Alongside the Branch Director, Emma has supported the business to diversify into new markets, introduce new services and mentor the increasing number of colleagues the busy branch continues to recruit.
Asked about her time with NRL, Emma commented, “Those twenty years have flown by - long service certainly has its advantages when you find a company that will invest in you and give you opportunities to develop. I feel lucky that NRL has grown so much over the years that my role continues to evolve.
From developing my career in early years, to supporting my changing home life needs, and now encouraging me with my MBA - I’ve always felt NRL have given me the balance I need to succeed, whilst challenging me to grow.”
